Boy, I’m smart. For some reason, I was thinking Vegan MoFo was in November, but no, it’s RIGHT NOW! Time to panic, right?

So, while we gather our thoughts and prepare to dive headlong into the Vegan Month of Food, here are some pics of vegan eats we’ve had around town.

The Soul Food Plate, which is the current Blue Plate at Spiral Diner.

Vegan Peanut Butter and Jelly cake from Stir Crazy Baked Goods at Avoca Coffee. Definitely one of my favorites from them.

Tofu Banh Mi from Nammi Truck.

Vegan Breakfast Boat from Yes! Taco. One of the few things that really make me say Yes! to breakfast is this.

Another cake from Stir Crazy – chocolate this time!

2010 is the first year since 2006 I’ve decided not to participate in the infamous NaNoWriMo contest where you write a 50,000 word novel in a month. I have two novel drafts that need to be revised, and I’d like to actually relax a little this Thanksgiving, so no NaNo for me this year. Then I found out about Vegan MoFo–Vegan Month of Food. During Vegan MoFo, vegan bloggers try to post at least once every weekday about anything related to vegan food–recipes, pictures, reviews–whatever. Since that’s our goal all the time here at VegFortWorth and November is an especially food-tastic month at our house, we figured we should give it a shot! So be sure to check back regularly for all kinds of recipes, reviews and general vegan food pr0n. And be sure to check out the 2010 blogroll at the Vegan MoFo website for even more drool-worthy vegan reading!

VegFortWorth took a little field trip this weekend to Dallas, to attend the Veggie State Fair, put on by the folks at Dallas Vegan. The Veggie State Fair was held just around the corner from the actual State Fair, near Fair Park on Haskell (alongside the new Santa Fe bike trail) on the grounds of the Phoenix Project.

The Veggie State Fair featured various booths and vendors (including Mercy for Animals, Animal Connection Texas, and the Black Vegetarian Society of Texas), games, live music, a vegan fried food contest, and food vendors set up in a little shed structure on the grounds. Spiral Diner, Tough Cookie Bakery, and V-Spot Veggie Cafe were on hand serving up vegan versions of State Fair-esque treats, including Frito pies, nachos, corn dogs, cookies, brownies, fried okra, and fried cookie dough.

The weather couldn’t have been better, and there was already a crowd gathered just after noon. We hung out, chatted with some folks, listened to some music, and visited the food booths, where we enjoyed a ridiculously tasty vegan Frito pie from Spiral Diner.

In the vegan fried food contest, the Best Tasting award went to Jarrod Feight for his Fried Vegan Reuben, while Most Creative went to Brad Cameron for his vegan Fried Bob Armstrong Dip.

Was a fun event, and we also checked out a Dallas restaurant while we were there, which we’ll write a bit about later this week.

Hi there. Welcome to VegFortWorth.

VegFortWorth isn’t anything too big – it’s a blog about being a vegan in the city known to most as “Cowtown.” This is a city that thinks of bacon as a condiment rather than a meat, so a lot of people don’t expect to find a vegan community down here – but there is one, and it’s growing.

This blog will serve multiple functions:

Posts about what we eat, whether at home or when dining out, to give our fellow FW vegans some ideas

A Fort Worth vegan restaurant guide, slowly added to over time.

Vegan news and happenings

Other local vegan-related posts from time to time

No biggie. We’d like to keep things fun and simple around here.

In the spirit of keeping things simple, we’ll end this welcome post here, and encourage our fellow FW vegans to follow the site and suggest stuff.
