I’ve been doing photography for years, and have shot thousands of photos on digital in that time. Lately, though, I’ve become enamored with film. There’s an intangible quality to film that I don’t get from digital – perhaps it has something to do with it being a chemical reaction between light and the film, rather than what a digital sensor sees when the shutter’s open.

Whatever the explanation, I’ve picked up a couple of old 35mm film cameras (a Pentax K1000 SLR from the early ’80s and an Olympus Trip 35 from the early ’70s), and have been getting into film. A natural subject for this newfound fascination is vegan food.

Here are three photos I took recently with the K1000 & some Kodak UltraMax film at Spiral Diner in the Near Southside. That first photo shows the nachos, while the second and third are of the migas and some tasty-looking cookies, respectively. Just figured y’all might enjoy them as well.
